Curtis Gardner Harris, 77, passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Transitions LifeCare.
He was born in Louisburg on February 2, 1937 to the late Melvin Gardner Harris and Marian Senora Harris. Curtis honorably served his country in the US Army. He retired from NC State University where he was a manager in the Chemistry Dept. Curtis was an avid Wolfpack fan. His love of sports and children led him to coach baseball, softball and football at Wilder’s Grove and basketball at The Boys Club. He was a member of St. James United Methodist Church.
Funeral service 4:00 pm Saturday, November 15, 2014 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale with Military Honors. Family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service from 3:00 to 4:00 pm. A private inurnment service will be held at Montlawn Memorial Park.
Curtis is survived by the love of his life, Marie Bright Stephens Harris; daughter: Sherri Harris Matheson (Patrick) of Wake Forest; his grandchildren whom affectionately called him “Bepa”: Marley and Macy Matheson; sister, Rachel H. House of Louisburg; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog Rico.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by son, Curtis Gardner Harris, Jr. and daughter Dawn Marie Harris.
