Dr. Robert Abarno “Bob” went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, November 10, 2014 at his residence in Raleigh, NC at the age of 94.
Bob was born February 8, 1920 in Queens, NY and lived in the NYC area for many years. He served as a proud Marine during WWII. After the war Bob spent many years in the business world. In the 1970’s Bob arrived in Durham where he became an ordained minister and received a doctorate in Clinical Psychology. He then embarked in a ministry as a biblical Christian counselor and pastoral mentor in the Triangle area. Bob was also a founding director of Biblical Wellness Ministries, Church Initiative and he began a Christian counselor’s fellowship group. In addition, he authored four books in his service to the Lord.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Ann McGowan Abarno, and his children: Robert N. Abarno (Eleanor) of Silver Springs, MD; Carole Milone (Bob) of Deerfield Beach, FL; Margaret Barton (Gary) of Londonderry, VT; Julie Williams (David) of Chesapeake, VA; David R. R. Abarno (Sonya) of Jacksonville, FL; 13 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren and 7 nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held at Dayspring Fellowship Church, 922 9th Street, Durham on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
