Lt. Colonial William "Bill" Murray Aldred, Jr., 78, died surrounded by his family on Veterans Day, November 11, 2014, in Durham, NC.
Bill is survived by wife, Patsy Parrott Aldred; son, Dodd & wife Michelle, son Murray, and grandchildren; Rebecca, Kristin, Kyle, and Ahna.
Bill was born on August 5, in Durham, NC to Nell “Tot” Cheek McKee & William Murray Aldred. Bill graduated from Durham High School, then achieving his lifetime goal attending University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, and Texas A&M University, Magna Cum Laude. Bill married Patsy Parrott, his dancing sweetheart in 1989. He served in the United States Air Force for 20 plus years retiring from The Pentagon. Thereafter, serving as Vice President for Home Security Life Insurance Company.
Bill believed in living life in the present. He believed that God gives us one day at a time, which reflected in all aspects of his life allowing him to form deep, personal relationships. His son, Dodd, remembers him as a generous and loving father always giving him encouragement, letting him know there was nothing he couldn’t accomplish by hard work.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, November 16 at 2pm in the Howerton & Bryan Funeral Chapel, officiated by Reverend Sam Grigsby, a close and personal friend, from London, Kentucky. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bill's life. Following the funeral service, a reception will be held at The Cotton Room, 807 East Main Street, Durham, NC. Burial with full military honors will take place at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington DC at a date to be determined.
