Florence Anna Carle

Florence Anna Caganek Carle passed away peacefully on Nov 18, 2014 after a brief illness.

"Flory" was born April 28, 1924 in Binghamton, New York to Joseph and Valeria Caganek.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kenneth V. Carle and her granddaughter Raejean Marie Carle.

Flory was a Roman Catholic. She attended Blessed Sacrament Church, Johnson City, New York and later, upon moving to Raleigh in 1964, attended Our Lady of Lourdes Church until her health prevented her from attending.

Flory graduated from Johnson City High School, Johnson City New York in 1943. She played first base for the Johnson City Wildcats and loved to reminisce about those fun times.

During WWII she did her part by being employed by Remington – Rand Corp. making propellers for the WWII aircraft.

After the war, love called and she quit her job, married her high school sweetheart and lifelong love, Kenneth V. Carle. They remained happily married for 61 years until his death in 2006.

She was the excellent mother of 7 children. Flory was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker her whole life. She was a beautiful person both on the inside as well as the outside. She was gracious, kind, calm, compassionate, always happy and had a warm, open personality. She always placed her family’s needs above her own. Flory was bilingual, she kept an immaculate house and she was an excellent cook.

Flory was a family historian and maintained family artifacts.

She enjoyed needlepoint, walking, aqua-size, travel, boating, camping, and yard work.

Most of all, she enjoyed her family, their accomplishments and having them all together. Florence is survived by her brother, Rudy Caganek (Ellen) of Port Crane, NY. 5 sons: Terry K Carle (Susan) of Johnson City, Tn. Eric S Carle (Catherine) of Gretna, La. Kevin G Carle (Grey) of New London, NC. William J Carle (Debbie) of Pahrump, NV. Brian P Carle of Benson, NC. Daughters: Mary S Pengelly (Wayne) of Angier, NC and Amy C Spann (Chris) of Angier, NC. She is survived by 7 grandchildren: Eric S Carle Jr of New Orleans, La, Kelly Jarvis of New Orleans, Kevin W Carle of Portland, Or. Christopher A Carle (Jessica) of Bristol, Tn. David A Carle (Jacqueline) of Johnson City, Tn. Jarrett and Jackson Spann of Angier, NC She is also survived by 6 great grandchildren, Collin and Ryan Jarvis, Lilly Carle, Olivia Ames, Hailey and Rylan Carle.

A visitation will be held from 6-8 pm Thursday November 20, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary Street, Raleigh.

A Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 1pm Friday, November 21, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church 2718 Overbrook Dr. Raleigh, NC.

Internment will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park, Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh.
