Jean Farrar Porter, 60, was the oldest daughter of Mary Mann and Billy R. Farrar. Born and reared on her family farm near Apex, NC, in Chatham County, Jean lived in Wake Forest, NC, and loved spending time in Wilmington, NC. She was a graduate of North Carolina State University. Jean was a very generous and giving person with a heart of gold. Her family and friends were often surprised by thoughtful gifts she would find for them, usually for no occasion. Her compassionate spirit and strength carried over into her 24 year career with Nationwide Insurance. Jean was predeceased by her parents, and brother in law, Michael Talbert. She leaves behind her husband of 29 years, Jimmy Porter, of Wake Forest, NC. She is survived by her brother, James Farrar and wife, Angela of Lillington, NC; sister Nancy Talbert of Pittsboro, NC; sister, Frances, and husband, Randy Boyd of Lillington, NC; and sister Linda, and husband, Dan Andrews of Fuquay Varina, NC; sister in law Silvia Dawn Gregory of Raleigh; step-son Russ and wife, Nikki Porter of Wake Forest, NC, children Ava Porter and Colt Fox; step daughter Kim, and husband Matt Miller of Durham, NC. Jean dearly loved her nieces and nephews: Amy Farmer, Emily Hill, Kyle Farrar, Jennifer Smith, Katie Boyd, Blake Boyd, Farra Andrews, Anna Andrews, Melinda Vilena and Carla Gregory.
Friends and family are invited to meet for a time of visitation, from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Montlawn Memorial Park at 2911 S. Wilmington Street, Raleigh, NC 27603. A memorial service will follow the visitation at 3:00 pm.
