Wilma Deane Mallernee Evans, 83, passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Moses Cone Hospital.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 12:00 noon, at Hanes Lineberry North Elm Chapel with Rev. Rodney Navey officiating.
Wilma Deane Mallernee Evans was born on November 3, 1931 in Four Oaks, NC to the late Jasper Riley Blackmon and Cassie Lee Blackmon. She was a former member of Blackmon’s Grove Baptist Church. She was the first in her family to attend college, graduating from East Carolina University with a major in Education. Deane taught school in the Alamance County School System for many years.
Deane was a great Mom and her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed bowling, bridge and golf. She loved to recite poetry.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands, James Eugene Mallernee and John Evans; siblings, Rena Blackmon, Newby Blackmon and Homer Blackmon; Deane is survived by her two sons, Bryan and wife Cindy Mallernee of Greensboro and Robert and wife Teresa Mallernee of Chapel Hill, NC; grandchildren, Katie Chandler, Gregory Mallernee, Ben Mallernee, James (Jim) Mallernee, Margaret (Maggie) Mallernee and Alexander Bobb; great grandchildren Teagan Morey and Alexis Marie Chandler; sisters, Jackie Carey, Margaret Stanford and brother J.R. Blackmon.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 21, 2014 at Hanes Lineberry North Elm Chapel from 6:00 - 8:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to Gateway Education Center, Greensboro, NC or to the Duke Children’s Hospital, Durham, NC.
Hanes Lineberry North Elm Chapel is assisting the Family.
