Joy Elrene Brown Guyer, 76-years-old, entered into eternal peace on Sunday, November 16, 2014, with her family by her side, at Transitions LifeCare in Raleigh, NC. Joy’s strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family, friends, and many supporters carried her through the difficult few weeks following her diagnosis of Glioblastoma. Joy was born on April 6, 1938, in Cleveland, Ohio to James D. Brown and Lillian Goodland Brown. Joy is leaving her loving memories to be cherished by her devoted husband of 54 years, Gerald “Jerry” Guyer , three daughters and nine grandchildren.
Joy had a loving, generous heart and believed in giving back to her church, family, school and community. She left a fine example of how to live by her words and actions. She was driven to get involved and do for others. Joy graduated from Wayland Academy and earned a BS in Psychology from Denison University where she was a member and President of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She was Deaconess and Sunday School teacher at St Phillip Lutheran Church, Raleigh, NC; President of the Women’s Golf Association, Board of Directors (BOD) and Golf Club Champion at Ft. Wayne Country Club in IN; BOD of Belfair County Club, SC; On the Architectural Review Board (ARB), BOD and Property Owners Association of 12 Oaks, NC; Member of the Women’s Southwest Wake County Republican Club in Cary and Chairperson for the Republican Party of Beaufort County where she had the pleasure of introducing political figures including Mitt Romney, Joe Wilson, & Laura Bush; she was an active member of PEO; and a life master in bridge.
Joy Elrene Brown Guyer is survived by her loving husband, Gerald H. Guyer ; Her three daughters: Jamie Joy Guyer-Elliott, Scott Elliott; Jennifer Kristen Guyer-Stenner and husband Alfred Jackson Stenner, IV; Julie Lynne Fulmer and husband Christopher Elliott Fulmer; and her nine grandchildren, Alfred Jackson Stenner V, Rachael Joy Elliott, Jordan Guyer Stenner, Jonathan Scott Elliott, Christian Alexander Stenner, Aidan James Stenner, Andrew James Fulmer, Caroline Elizabeth Fulmer, and Kathryn Joy Fulmer.
A celebration of her life will be held at Colonial Baptist Church in Cary, NC, officiated by Pastor Stephen Pritchett ; followed by a reception.
