Raymond Franklin Huntington, Jr. died unexpectedly of natural causes on November 10, 2014. He lived in Chapel Hill, and was the son of Dr. Gail S. Huntington, of Chapel Hill, and of LTC (ret) Raymond Huntington, Sr. and wife Michele of Cocoa Beach, Florida.
Mr. Huntington was born in Wiesbaden, Germany, in 1956, the second of five children. In his youth, he moved with his family throughout the US due to his father’s military career. Mr. Huntington served with the 82nd Airborne Division for 4 years. Mr. Huntington worked in the Middle East for 15 years as project manager and provided support to the US Army during the Gulf War. Upon his return to the US, Mr. Huntington graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and began working with adolescents with disabilities. Later, Mr. Huntington moved to Chapel Hill to be close to his family. Mr. Huntington worked as a counselor with Freedom House in Durham and Chapel Hill. He recently completed the course work for a Master’s degree for Mental Health Counselors.
Mr. Huntington was a talented artist, musician and a Master scuba diver. His life experiences combined with his compassion made him a particularly effective counselor. His intelligence, wit and belief in the healing power of a good conversation will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Mr. Huntington is survived by his parents; Gail Huntington and Raymond Huntington, Sr. (Michele) and four siblings; Lynn Huntington-Meath (Jamie); Susan Spinelli (Nicholas); Stacy Payne; and Tyler Huntington (Celeste). He also leaves 12 nieces and nephews, three great-nephews and a great-niece.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 29th at noon at The Event Center, 200 S. Elliott Rd., Chapel Hill, NC. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to Freedom House Recovery Center, 104 New Stateside Dr., Chapel Hill, NC 27516.
