Frances Sturgis McQuaid passed away Friday, November 19, 2014. She was 85 years old. She is survived by her children, Kathleen McQuaid and John McQuaid; son-in-law, Steve Gurganus; former daughter-in-law, Betty McQuaid; grandchildren, Nghia Gurganus, Ciara Gurganus, Elizabeth McQuaid, and Patricia Stutts; grandson-in-law, Andrew Stutts; brother, George Sturgis and sisters-in-law Yvette Sturgis and Patricia Coerver. She was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, John William McQuaid.
Frances was a graduate of Louisiana State University with a MS in Biochemistry. Her career included work at Esso Research Laboratories and the State of Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality in Baton Rouge. Post-retirement, she worked at the US Environmental Protection Agency in Research Triangle Park until age 82. Born in College Station, Texas, she was grew up, was educated, worked, and raised her children in Baton Rouge. She moved to Raleigh in 1990 with her husband to be close to her children and grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be held at Pullen Memorial Church on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, donations to the World Wildlife Fund are welcome.
