Richard Eugene Herlacher died on the morning of December 17th 2014, after a six month battle with lung cancer, which included several complications, but he never complained. Dick was born in Williamsport, PA on January 11, 1943. He graduated from Williamsport High School and in 1965 received his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Penn State University. Dick worked as an electrical engineer for several corporations in Lancaster and Camp Hill, PA and Raleigh, NC for 23 years before finally achieving his dream of opening Prestige Auto Brokers LLC, with his two sons in 2004. Although Dick greatly enjoyed his engineering work, cars were his first passion and he was always willing to help family and friends with their car repair needs. He was excited to see the car business grow and was very proud of his sons. He was also very proud of his daughter who is a science teacher at Sanderson High School.
Dick served in the Army Reserves for six years. He was a volunteer with New Cumberland River Rescue in the 70’s and Asbury UMC and Habitat for Humanity after moving to Raleigh.
Dick had a great love for his family. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Nancy; his two sons, Steve from Zebulon and John from Raleigh; and daughter Amanda and her husband Dan from Creedmoor. In addition, Dick is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Jane from Lincoln, MA and their children Laura Conway, married to Chris with three children, and Gregg Herlacher, married to Ellen with one child.
There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday Dec. 20th at 2:00 PM at Asbury UMC, 6612 Creedmoor Rd. Raleigh, NC 27613. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Asbury United Methodist Church.
