Robert Fulton Bozart of Raleigh, NC, age 72, passed away on Tuesday, December 16, in the care of Heartfields Assisted Living of Cary. He had endured a four year battle with heart failure and other illnesses that caused him to need numerous hospitalizations, rehab and, since 2011, assisted living. The family expresses gratitude to Heartfields of Cary and Heartland Hospice for his day to day care.
Born March 18, 1942, Robert was the second youngest of five children born to Benton F. and Roselle Bozart of Garner, NC. He is predeceased by his parents, his two brothers, Freddy and Benny Bozart, and his older sister, Rose Marie Hodges. He is survived by his sister, Janice Raye Smith of Charleston, SC; niece, Kimberly Rentz, her husband Bill and daughter, Charlotte; brother-in-law, Charles Hodges of Charlotte, NC and nephew Bill Hodges, his wife, Renee and their children, Samantha, J.T., and Charlie; a step niece, Tammy Butler of Raleigh as well as the children of his deceased brother, Freddy, Brenda Gabriele of Swansboro, NC and Elaine Woodard of Macon, NC, Ricky Bozart of Virginia, and a host of friends.
Special thanks are expressed to Mary Dix and Linda Owens Pendergraft, dear friends of Robert and the family who have provided constant watch and attention as “extended family.”
Robert spent his 28 year career with the Army National Guard and retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 in Raleigh.
He was an avid cook and enjoyed entertaining his friends. He also enjoyed fixing up houses, decorating and landscaping, which he did in three locations along with his friend, Perry Batten. His last residence is decorated with furniture and dishes from the estate of the late, famous singer, Kate Smith, also of Raleigh.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 19, at 1:00PM at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh. Burial will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh. The family will receive friends at Mitchell Funeral Home on hour prior to the service.
