Leslie Donell “Don” Liggins, 79, passed away, Wednesday, December 17, 2014 after many months of declining health. Don was born in Nash County on July 6, 1935 to the late Percy Thomas Liggins and Thelma Creech Liggins. He graduated from Wendell High School in 1953 and went on to serve his country in the US Air Force for 8 years, where he became an Air Traffic Controller and worked in this field until retirement. After retirement he worked at Jimmy Bucks service station in Wendell where he made many new friends and renewed old acquaintances.
Surviving: wife, Jeanie Snead Liggins; daughter, Deborah L. McKaig (Ben) of Knightdale; son, Anthony Liggins of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren: David McKaig, Scott McKaig (Katie), Maggie Vacquier (Paul), James Liggins and Christian Liggins; great-grandchildren: Liam and Aiden McKaig; brother, Ricky Liggins (Deborah); sister-in-law, Judy Liggins; and many special nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brothers; Larry and Charles.
A service to celebrate his life will be held 1:00 pm, Saturday, December 20, 2014 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, with Military Honors. The Liggins family will visit immediately after the funeral service from 1:30 to 3:00 pm at the funeral home. Private graveside Gethsemane Memorial Gardens.
