Hazel Moye Southern Evans passed away December 20, 2014 with family by her side. She was born July 14, 1919 in Franklin County (Bunn, NC) to the late Madison H. Moye and Bessie Helen Jeffreys Moye.
Hazel graduated from Bunn High School in 1937 and attended King’s Business College. After graduating, she worked at Dorthea Dix Hospital in Raleigh for many years. In 1940, she was employed by Civil Services with the U.S. Signal Corp., during World War II in Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia, PA.
Her husband Marshall D. Southern died in April 1989. She married Donahue Evans in 1995, and he died in 2000. Hazel was also preceded in death by her brothers, Woodrow Moye, Benjamin Moye and Herbert Moye, Madison Moye and her sister, Becky Moye Gray.
Hazel is survived by her daughter, Jean S. Johnson and her husband, Richard; grandson, Kevin Johnson; and great granddaughter, Brittany Johnson.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 22, 2014 at 2:00pm at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh, NC, with a visitation being held one hour prior. Burial will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park. Flowers are appreciated, or contributions may be made in Hazel’s memory to Longview Baptist Church, 2308 New Hope Road, Raleigh, NC 27604, where she was a member or to Transitions LifeCare, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.
