Jesse Gray Smith

Jesse Gray Smith, 90, passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family.

Gray was born in Davie County on February 3, 1924 to the late Stacy Kimbrough and Dora Smith Smith. He was married to the late Elizabeth Daughtry Smith. Gray proudly served his country during WWII in the China Burma India Campaign in the United States Army Air Corp. Gray was a hard-working man, which was the theme of his life, he lived to work. He was the kind of man who was loyal to his family, who took great pride in caring and providing for them.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Love Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Toler and Rev. Arthur Warren officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

He is survived by his sons, Steve Smith and wife Laura of Dudley, Butch Smith and wife Linda of Cary, Craig Smith and wife Debbie of Cary, and Lt Col (Retired) Blake Smith and wife Katerina of Yuba City, CA; grandsons, Phillip Smith, Kevin Smith, Brian Smith, Shane Smith, Ashley Smith, Matthew Smith, Christopher Smith; granddaughter, Jennifer Smith; and great-grandchildren, Jacob Smith, Nicholas Smith, Kaitlyn Smith, Gray Smith, Cole Smith, Carson Smith, Brayden Smith, Allie Smith, and Karis Smith; brother Billy Smith of South River; sisters, Ruth Taylor of Taylorsville, Betty Fabiano of Newton, GA, and Sue Wilson of Austin TX.

The family will receive friends Monday, December 22, 2014 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at his home.
