Mildred Whitley Parker, 84, passed away Sunday morning, December 21, 2014 at the Oliver House in Wendell surrounded by her loving and caring family. Mildred was born on August 4, 1930 in Suffolk, VA to the late Doctor Whitley and Beatrice Carter Whitley. For many years, Mildred worked as a switchboard operator, then moving to the accounting office of Rex Hospital. As long as her health permitted, she was an active and loyal member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC. Burial: Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC. The family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service from 12:00 – 12:45 p.m.
Surviving: Husband: James Wiley “J.W.” Parker of Lugoff, SC; sons: Jimmy Parker (Jan) of Wendell, Craig Parker (Lynne) of Billerica, MA; grandchildren: Ryan Parker (Laura), Sam Parker (Dana) and Abigail Parker; great-grandchildren: Sami Jane, Carl Moss, Grace Lauren, Elizabeth Louise and Amos Wiley Parker; brothers: Billy, Clarence, Ernest, Gene, and Paul Whitley; sister: Annette W. Thompson.
In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her son, Stephen Parker; brothers: Milton, George and Bobby; and a sister, Madeline W. Cooke.
