Mary Elizabeth (Katie) Holohan, 89, passed away on December 21, 2014 surrounded by her family at the Transitions LifeCare Center in Raleigh, North Carolina.
She was born in Old Town, Maine on December 10, 1925, to the late Edward and Delcina Buchanan.
A Great Works, Maine native, Mary graduated from Old Town High School and then moved to Schenectady, New York where she was employed by General Electric and met her husband, Bill.
While raising their family, they resided in several locations: Schenectady, NY, Beverly, MA, Saugerties, NY, and finally Raleigh, NC where she was a member of St. Raphael’s Roman Catholic Church.

Mary volunteered at various fundraisers in the area and at Wake Med for many years. Her main focus and commitment was to her grandchildren, whom she loved and doted on.
Mary is lovingly remembered by her three daughters, Martha Sasso with husband Gus, Kingston, NY, Donna Holohan, Raleigh, NC and Patricia Nowell with husband Al, Rolesville, NC; eight grandchildren, Anthony Sasso and wife Thy, Mary Jane Norton and husband Michael, Sarah Donleycott and husband Kenneth, Amy Glover, Allyson Nowell, Tiffani Woodlief and husband Ken, Jessica Reese and husband Steve, and Lexie Corey; ten great-grandchildren, Emma and Abigail Donleycott, Brody Norton, Chase and Mason Corey, Braxon and Kaleb Reese, and Jacob, Logan and Madaline Woodlief, and many nieces and nephews.
Including her parents, she was predeceased in death by her husband William; six brothers, Edward, Irvin, Richard, Willard, Paul and Robert Buchanan; and three sisters, Esther Rafferty, Phyllis McMillan and Avis McCullouch.
Arrangements are by Carolina Cremation Society of the Carolinas.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 26, 2014 at 10:00 AM in the lobby of St. Raphael Catholic Church. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 AM in the Chapel.
Internment will take place in Great Works, Maine at the family’s convenience.
