Joyce Hanser Million

Joyce Hanser Million passed away Monday, December 22 after a brief illness in Raleigh, NC. Joyce was born in Shelbyville, KY on August 29, 1927. Joyce attended Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, KY. She met her husband, Glenn Wagers Million, at EKU and were married December 22, 1946. After Glenn's graduation from EKU in 1950 and commission in the US Army, Joyce and Glenn traveled the world from post to post for 28 years. She was the consummate Army officer's wife. Upon Glenn's retirement from the Army in in 1978, Joyce and Glenn retired in Fairfax Station, Va and then back to Richmond, Ky. Joyce moved to Raleigh in 2008.

Joyce was a member of Hillyer Memorial Christian Church of Raleigh and the First Christian Church of Richmond, Ky when she lived there. She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the Christian Womens Fellowship in Raleigh. She enjoyed traveling the world, gardening, and had a thirst for enjoying life.

Joyce was preceded in passing by her husband of 58 years, Glenn Wagers Million.

She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Garnett & Linda Million of Calabash, NC; her son and daughter in law, Phillip & Geralyn Million of Portales, NM; her son and daughter in law, Bruce & Kathy Million of Raleigh; four beloved grandchildren: Katherine Million, Bryant Million, Glenn Million, Clay Million; and step grandson Greg Brewer.

The family will receive friends Saturday, December 27, at Springmoor Retirement Community in Raleigh, in the South Village Terrace Room from 2:30 to 3:30pm.

A funeral service will be conducted at Hillyer Memorial Christian Church, 718 Hillsborough St. on Sunday, December 28, at 3:00 pm. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Richmond, KY.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hillyer Memorial Christian Church Youth Event Scholarship Fund or to the Springmoor Endowment Fund.

Arrangements by Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Saint Mary's St., Raleigh.
