Lillie “Lil” Seastrom, 96, passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at WakeMed in Cary, NC. Lil was born in Hobgood, NC on March 23, 1918. She was the youngest of seven children born to Hilda and Tanas Manseau.
Lil met and married George Seastrom in Norfolk, VA where George was in the Navy. Lil had a charming and witty personality with a great sense of humor. She seldom met a stranger and had many, many friends.
She was an excellent cook, talented seamstress and avid gardener. She was the first President of the Stoneybrook Garden Club of Cary. She delighted in baking cakes and cookies, not only for her husband, but also for friends. In the days prior to her passing she had made cookies and candy to give to friends, family and her doctors.
Lil led an active life and was always involved in various committees and projects. She was instrumental, at the age of 88, in one of her most rewarding and treasured projects. She began, along with several close friends and members of her church, the “Warmth for the Wounded” program. This group made over 880 “Quillows” (quilt and pillow combinations) for returning Veterans. Lil was invited to Washington, DC where she was recognized for her work on this project.
Lil loved the Lord from an early age. She was active for many years at the 1st Baptist Church of Cary where she was ordained as a Deacon. While a member there she served on numerous committees, taught Sunday School classes, and worked in Vacation Bible School. She has been a member of Greenwood Forest Baptist Church for the past 13 years and an active member of the JOY Sunday School class.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Dean Smith, Theresa Nester and her brothers, Lloyd Manseau and James Manseau.
She is survived by her husband of 75 years, George H. Seastrom; two sisters: Maude Johnson and Bonnie Finch; sons: George R. Seastrom and wife Carole and Gary W. Seastrom and wife Gail; grandchildren: Richard Seastrom, Cindy Chambers, Tami Berry and Guenevere Seastrom; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lil’s family greatly appreciates the love and support of her Greenwood Forest church family, the Waltonwood family and the nurses and staff of the 3rd floor at WakeMed Cary.
