Thomas Davis Bunn

Thomas Davis (Buck) Bunn passed away peacefully at home at 12:03am on January 17, 2015, his ninetieth birthday. Buck was born at home on Iredell Drive in the Hayes Barton section of Raleigh on January 17, 1925, the youngest of five siblings to Julian Wilbur and Maude Davis Bunn. After graduating from Broughton High School, Buck entered the US Army Air Corps, serving his country in World War II as a B-29 Bomber Pilot. He flew 21 missions over Japan and the Pacific. Upon his return home, he graduated from Wake Forest College and Law School where he was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity and the tennis team. He joined his father’s law firm, which became Hatch, Little & Bunn, where he practiced law for over 50 years. Buck also served as a member in the NC House of Representatives from 1963-69. He married Rebecca (Becky) Smith in 1950 and they had four children together: T. Davis, Jr, Rebecca (Bunny), Wilton Leroy (Lee), and Nancy. In 1975 Buck married Patricia Husketh and they raised two children together: Lisa and Emory Lee (deceased 2009). Buck and Patricia remained married until his death. Buck had boundless energy as a decades-long member of the NCSU Adult Fitness Group and in playing tennis as often as he could at Raleigh Racquet Club into his late eighties. In 2011, he was privileged to participate in an Honor Flight of WWII veterans to Washington, DC. He enjoyed his time and friendships at Providence Baptist Church and Hayes Barton Baptist Church, and his many years in Bible Study Fellowship and the Providence Men’s Monday Night Bible Study. Buck knew Jesus Christ as his Savior. He made wonderful memories for his children and grandchildren at Nag’s Head, Bald Head Island, the River, Lake Gaston, his backyard creek, and his home. He will be missed. Buck is survived by his wife of 40 years, Patricia, and his children and their spouses, and with grandchildren: Davis and Isabella Bunn; Bunny and John Fox Matthews, Mason (Lucia) and Tyler (Molly); Lee and Pamela Bunn, Guthrie (Jill). Riley (Diane), and Macon; Nancy and Justin Smith, Ivey and Mary; Lisa and Jeff Jarema, Katie Grace. He is also survived by five great grandchildren: Ryan, Kaeden and Ethan Matthews, and Cohen and Presley Bunn; and one sister, Dorothy Bunn Stuart of Richmond, VA. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 20, from 9:00 – 11:00am at Hayes Barton Baptist Church in the fellowship hall prior to the 11:00am memorial service in the sanctuary.
