Man impersonating a police officer robs couple in Matthews

A man posing as a police officer robbed a couple Saturday night after stopping them while they were driving, Matthews police said.

The man, who was driving a Crown Victoria with a blue light on the bumper, stopped the couple on CPCC Lane, off Campus Ridge Road. The man, wearing a uniform and a badge, approached the couple, but as he came closer, the couple could see that the badge was a fake, police said.

The man robbed them and then left, police said. No weapons were used, and no one was hurt.

The man was described as a white male, about 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds, who was driving an older-model white Crown Victoria.

Police said if you are suspicious about someone who appears to be a police officer and stops you, don’t speed up. Instead, put on your flashers, call 911 and pull into a well-lit parking lot, authorities said. WBTV
