Susan Lynn Mashburn DeCatsye died peacefully at her home in Fuquay-Varina on January 20 at the age of 58.
Susan was born on November 8, 1956 in Raleigh to Lynn and Katherine Mashburn. She graduated from Lafayette School in 1974. In 1977, Susan married her soulmate, Jim DeCatsye. They had two children, April and Jenny, who were the light of her life. Anyone who knew Susan knew what a hard worker she was. She worked many years for the state government, with her most recent job being with the NC Department of Agriculture.
Susan was diagnosed with brain cancer in July 2013. She bravely fought her cancer for more than a year and a half before God called her home to Heaven. Her unfailing courage, optimism, sense of humor, and faith in God were very awe-inspiring and inspirational to her family and many friends. Susan loved life fully and found joy in everything it had to offer. She was always upbeat. Anyone who came in contact with Susan instantly knew she was a child of God.
She is survived by her mother, Katherine Spence Mashburn of Fuquay Varina; soulmate, James DeCatsye of Cary; daughters, April Keen (husband Ryan) of Perrysburg, OH and Jenny DeCatsye; sister, Katherine Griffin (husband John); brother, James Mashburn (wife Teresa); sister-in-law, Kirsten Mashburn; five nieces and nephews; and four great-nieces and nephews all of Fuquay Varina. She was preceded in death by her father, James (Lynn) Mashburn and her brother, Rod Mashburn.
