Charles Roger "Roger" Anderson, 85, passed away peacefully at his home Sunday, January 18, 2015. Chuck had been in declining health for several years and critical condition for over four weeks. He was born October 1, 1929, the son of Verner and Lena H. Anderson.
Chuck grew up in the New England states where he developed a lifelong passion for the outdoors. He explored that through his military career and was a Navy veteran serving his country during the Korean War. He enjoyed a lifelong love of travel, which included hiking the Appalachian Trail (AT), visiting many state and national parks, snowskiing throughout the US, volunteering and supporting the Boy Scouts for decades. He enjoyed sharing his passion with his best friend, and adventurous wife Polly, friends and family along the way - and met new aquaintances at every turn. He had great compassion for animals, supporting the ASPCA, and rescued many animals over his lifetime. He truly adored his rescued lab/retriever, “Doc”, who passed away from cancer, the day after his master. He retired after thirty years with The Lilly Company in High Point, NC, as a salesman of finishing materials for furniture.
He was of the Presbyterian faith and was a member of Adams Farm Community Church, of Jamestown, NC.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife Polly Edmonds Anderson of the home, two daughters, Carol Gallegos of San Jose, CA, Linda Wells and husband Tom of Cary, NC; stepson, Tony Rich of Archdale, NC; two grandchildren, Rachel G. Odendahl and husband Greg of Carroll, Iowa, Ryan Gallegos of San Jose, CA; sister-in-laws, Nancy Skelton and husband Don, Lula Mae Williams and husband Sidney, and Jean Edmonds all of Archdale, NC. Special godchildren are Trish and Ronnie Dunford, James “Pedro” and Carey Allen, Kim and Stevie Davis all of Trinity, NC; godgrandchildren are Jamie and David Flowers of Trinity, and Amy Gray and Adam Gray of Cary, NC. The family would like to thank all the caregivers of Community Hospice of Asheboro, for their dedication of love and support.
