Frederick “Fred” Bryan Williams, 89, died peacefully on January 19, 2015. He was born May 26, 1925 in Raleigh, North Carolina to Irene Simpkins and William McKinley Williams.
He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, and a sister.
Fred is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sylvia Brantley Williams. The couple eloped on a whim just because they wanted. He is also survived by his daughter Wendy Williams Nyce, Son-in-Law Jeff Nyce Senior, grandsons Jeffrey “Jay” Nyce Junior, and Jonathan Nyce.
Employed as a Sales Representative of Berg Manufacturing and East Carolina Trucks, he eventually retired Vice President of Sales from Matt Enterprises. He was kept busy in his retired years by managing his properties with his wife, Sylvia and spending time with family. He also was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Raleigh where he was an ordained deacon and Sunday school teacher.

His favorite past-time was the gentleman’s game of golf. He was an accomplished golfer who played at courses around the world, but mostly with buddies at Pine Hollow Golf & Country Club. He achieved three Hole-In Ones and was able to shoot a score of at least his age from 70 until he retired his clubs at 86.
Fred was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy. He served honorably as an Aviation Captain on a Martin PBM Mariner, an amphibious rescue plane. He was captain of the same series of plane he spent his pre-service years building in the Glenn L Martin aviation plant.
A funeral service with military honors will be held at the Raleigh Memorial Park Mausoleum at 7501 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh on Friday January 23rd at 2 o’clock P.M. Interment will take place at a later time. Flowers will be welcomed, and condolences may be made online at www.MitchellatRMP.com
