John Julius Barefoot, 89, loving husband, father, and grandfather died peacefully in his sleep Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at his home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey Chappell Barefoot, both of 3285 North Walnut Street in Farmville, NC.
After graduating from Meadow High School in Benson NC, he entered the United States Armed Forces where he served for two years in the Army until his discharge on July 8, 1946. He then attended Kings Business College and was employed by FCX in Raleigh, NC as a systems engineer in the IBM Department. In 1962, he moved his family to Farmville, NC where he served as plant manager for the local FCX feed mill which later became Southern States. He operated the Farmville plant until his retirement on August 1, 1990.
Lifelong hobbies included his family, golf, NC State Athletics, and the Atlanta Braves, in addition to his deep love for the First Christian Church in Farmville.
He is survived by his two children, Mr. Roger P. Barefoot and wife Anna of Greenville, NC; Mrs. Linda Barefoot McClam and husband Louis of Raleigh, NC; two grandchildren, Mr. Mark McClam of Raleigh, NC and Mr. Philip H. Barefoot of Chapel Hill, NC and his brother, Earl Barefoot of Raleigh, NC.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation for the compassionate support provided by SILVERcare and its team of caregivers, particularly Pam Johnson, Catherine Walker, and Savilla Jones.
A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 24, 2015 at the First Christian Church 3776 S. Main Street, Farmville, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 on Friday, January 23, 2015 at the home.
