Anne O' Brien Ward

Anne O' Brien Ward was born in Henderson, N.C. (Vance County) on October 8, 1930. Her parents were Neil and Effie Green O'Brien of Washington D.C. Although living in D.C., Effie came back temporarily to Henderson to give birth so that her daughter would be a "true Southern Belle." When fourteen Anne's family moved to Raleigh, where she spent the remainder of her life. Anne graduated from Sacred Heart Cathedral Latin School and a two-year business program at Peace College. She met her husband-to-be in 1953 and they were married in October '54. They recently celebrated their 60th anniversary.

In addition to her husband Don she is survived by son Neil, daughter Donna, grandsons Alex and Kevin, granddaughter Kelly, brother-in-law Ben Ward and wife Rosemary of Summerville, S.C. and several nieces and nephews.

Although a staunch church-going Christian all of her life, Anne began attending Trinity Baptist Church (Don's church) in the early 90's and became quite active in its programs, projects, and the Joy Sunday-School Class. She joined Trinity officially last summer, much to her family and friends' delight.

Over the years Anne worked for various governmental agencies, especially the Soil Conservation Service (SCS) in Raleigh. She volunteered to help regularly at North Raleigh Ministries and Meals on Wheels among other programs until bad health overtook her.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Baptist Church at 11:00am on Tuesday January 27th. with Dr. Jeff Roberts officiating. Visitation will be immediately following the service.

The family pays special thanks to Dr. Mark Yoffe of the Cancer Clinic and to Hospice (Transitions LifeCare) for their dedicated assistance and empathy, especially Lee Readling.
