William Louis Poteat Jr., 42 of Hartsville, SC died on Feb. 3, 2015 at McLeod Hospice, Florence, SC. Will was a special person, greatly loved and cared for by his surviving parents, father, William Louis Poteat of Columbia, SC, and his mother, Nancy Corbett Brown of Lugoff, SC. Later his stepmother, Cheryl Griffith of Columbia, SC was lovingly involved.
His grandparents were the late Hubert McNeill and Jeanne Louise Leege Poteat and Albert Anderson and Nora Lee Harris Corbett.
Will was born in Richmond, VA in 1972, and lived at home until he entered Thad E Saleeby Center, Hartsville, SC in 1982.
Will was related to a long line of Wake Forest graduates and faculty. His name sake was his great-great-grandfather William Louis Poteat, President of Wake Forest and biology professor. Others were great grandfather, Hubert McNeil Poteat, latin professor, grandfather Hubert McNeil Poteat, Jr.,MD, and Grandfather Albert Anderson Corbett, Sr., JD. Other graduates include father, uncles, and cousins. Besides The Wake Forest lineage, Will, was related to other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews many of whom are from Smithfield and Raleigh, NC.
A very private service will be held at a later date. The family extends its deep appreciation to the many loving caregivers at Saleeby Center in Hartsville for the loving and compassionate care he received for 32 years.
