Son of the late Joe Obie Broadwell and Kitty Ruby Wall and step-mother, Ruby Kathleen Davis, he was a graduate of Knightdale High School. "Pop" retired from the Raleigh Police Department in 1982 and has enjoyed retirement ever since. His life revolved around his family. He enjoyed gardening and giving away his produce.
He was preceded in death by his wife Bonnie, brothers: Worth (Frances), Graham (Bonnie), James (Carolyn), Henry (Deen), and sister, Mary Esther Haigh (Paul). He is survived by sons: Kenny (Susan), Ronnie (Beth), grandson, Scott (Bethany), Chad (Kristin), great-grandsons: Davis, Austin and John, brothers: Clyde (Bobbie Nell), Reuben (Barbara), and sister, Betty Ruth Clark (Warren). He was affectionately known as “Uncle John” by many nieces and nephews. The family also would like to acknowledge Pop's loving caregivers, Brenda Hicks and her brother Ed.
Funeral service 2:00 pm, Friday, February 13, 2015 at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 8400 Poole Rd., Knightdale, 27545. Entombment to follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Thursday, February 12, 2015 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service, 944 Old Knight Rd., Knightdale, 27545 and other times at the home of Kenny and Susan Broadwell, 4224 K-Held Road, Knightdale.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his memory to Bethlehem Baptist Church Building Fund.
