How to use the Triangle Price Book

There are two ways to use this page: you can either search the existing entries that other people have entered, or you can enter a new item.

To search existing entries

You can search using as many criteria as you want or as few as you want. If you were to leave everything blank and hit "search," you would get all entries in the database.

If you are searching for a specific item, use the drop down menus for category, item, item description and brand to specify the item you are looking for. The search will return all of the entries for that item at any store.

Or you can also specify a store and search for price information for that store specifically.

If you do not see an item or store in the drop-down menu, that means there are no entries for that product or store yet.

To enter a new item

Click on "Add an item to the database" at the bottom of the main price book page. A new page will come up.

If you are not logged in to newsobserver.com, you will be asked to do so. (If you do not have an account yet, setting one up is easy and free. Click here)

Select a category from the drop-down menu.

Then select an item.

Choose an item description from the drop down menu or type in your own. Note that the item description is the specific item, such as Cheerios, Multigrain Cheerios, Coke or Diet Coke.

Choose a brand from the drop-down menu or type in your own. The brand should be the name of the manufacturer, such as Kellogg's or General Mills.

Enter the size of the container in ounces, pounds, pack, grams, count or feet. The database will calculate price per unit in the search results based on this information.

Enter the price in USD. You do not need to enter the dollar sign ($).

Select the store where you made your purchase and the specific store location.

Enter the date of purchase.

Your user ID should automatically appear in the user ID box.

Then hit submit and you're done!

A few other notes

* While we get the price book up and running, we are focusing on grocery stores and warehouse clubs only.

Eventually we will add the pharmacies, since we know there are great deals to be found at those stores, too.

But one step at a time!

* Please enter the regular or sale price charged for the item WITHOUT any discount you received using a coupon.

This way we can track the changes in the prices stores are charging.

You can always use the coupon database on Taking Stock to check coupon availability.
