United States Ryder Cup captain Corey Pavin added Tiger Woods, Stewart Cink, Zach Johnson and Rickie Fowler to the American team Tuesday when he announced his four captain's picks for the matches scheduled next month in Wales.
The announcement of Fowler, the 21-year old second-year pro, was the only surprise. Fowler has not won on the PGA Tour but he has emerged as one of the most dynamic players among the new generation on the PGA Tour.

The selection of Woods came as no surprise. Though there was speculation as to whether Pavin would select the world's No. 1 player, Woods' play has improved in recent weeks and he seemed certain to be a pick.
Cink and Johnson were also considered near locks for the team given their solid play in recent weeks and their Ryder Cup resumes. By adding Fowler, Pavin will take five first-time Ryder Cup players to Wales. The others are Jeff Overton, Dustin Johnson, Bubba Watson and Matt Kuchar.
As for why he chose Fowler over other candidates including Lucas Glover and Anthony Kim, Pavin said, "He's deserving. There are a lot of guys deserving of being on the team. It just came down to feeling. I had a gut feeling about Rickie."
