Wallace Franklin Evans

Wallace Franklin Evans, 91, husband of Mary “Trudie” White Evans, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, January 24, 2015.

Wallace was born December 11, 1923 in Durham, the son of the late George F. Evans, Sr., and the late Flonnie Mitchell Evans. He was educated in the Durham County Schools and attended Croft Business School. He served in the US Navy “Seabees” in the South Pacific during WWII, and is a life member of the Navy Seabee Veterans of America. Wallace was a member of Summerville Presbyterian Church. He retired from Carolina Power and Light Company, now Duke Energy, in Raleigh, NC.

Wallace is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary, of N. Charleston, SC; two brothers, George F. Evans, Jr., of Surf City, NC and Douglas W. Evans of Durham, NC; and several nieces & nephews.

In addition to his parents, Wallace was preceded in death by two sisters, Lois Evans Smith and Eunice Paschall Frye.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 11:00 am in the Howerton & Bryan Funeral Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Mike Shelton. Inurnment will follow in the Old Section of Maplewood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until 10:50 a.m. prior to the service.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

The Evans family is under the care of Howerton & Bryan Funeral Home. Online condolences may be submitted at www.howertonbryan.com, select obituaries.
