Dougal Angus McPhail, Jr., 88, a native of Enfield, died Sunday, February 8, 2015 at Nash General Hospital in Rocky Mount. Affectionally known as “Dougie” by all who knew him, he was a very devoted husband who enjoyed doing for others, especially the elderly, who he assisted and checked on whenever he could. A United States Navy retiree he was owner of D.A.McPhail Clothing Store in Enfield and was a member of the Enfield Baptist Church for many years. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge in Rocky Mount. Parkers Bar B Que in Wilson was a favorite outing and he would always carry a car full of friends when he went. He loved cars and he loved to travel having been to all the continental states in America. “He had big brown eyes that did not miss a trick”.
Mr. McPhail was preceded in death by his parents, Dougal Angus McPhail, Sr. and Mary Glen Smith McPhail and brothers, Bobby and Glen McPhail. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Anne Edwards McPhail of their home; sister Joyce Battle of Durham; sister-in-law, Jean McPhail of Raeford and 11 nieces and nephews.
The family will be receiving friends Sunday, February 15, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. in Enfield Baptist Church followed by his Funeral Service at 3:00 P.M. with The Rev. Kerry Peeler & The Rev. Rochele Bailey presiding. Burial with Naval Military Honors will follow in the Roberts Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery in Pendleton, NC. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Enfield Baptist Church, 200 West Burnette Ave., Enfield, NC 27823. Bridgers Funeral Home, Inc. in Conway is in charge of arrangements.
