Phillip Anthony Edwards, age 59, died Thursday morning in Johnston Medical Center. Born September 19, 1955 in Wayne County to Melvin Ray Edwards and the late Mary Evelyn Rains Edwards he was an assistant manager with Edwards IGA. A U.S. Navy Veteran, Phil was a member of the Smithfield VFW. He was also a member of the Edwards IGA Fishing Club, a diehard Wolfpack fan, a lifelong member of the Princeton United Methodist Church and a former member of the Smithfield Jaycees.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with the Rev. Norma Roberts to officiate. Burial, with military honors, will follow in the Princeton Cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Marian Harris Edwards; daughter, Jessica Elizabeth “Jessi” Edwards of Greenville; father and step-mother, Melvin R. and Ann Stancil Edwards of Princeton; brothers, Bruce Edwards and wife Rene of Four Oaks and Steve Edwards and wife LuNelle of Princeton; sisters, Phyllis Edwards of Princeton, Rosemary Gatewood and husband Doug of Four Oaks and Sara Moore and husband Steve of Rosewood; step-brothers, Jackson Stancil of Princeton and Johnathan Stancil and wife Jen of Pittsburgh, PA, several nieces and nephews and his faithful dog, Maxie.
