Jim O’Dekirk passed away on Friday, March 6, 2015 after a lengthy and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease and Lewy Body Dementia. Jim was born in Chicago, IL to James Buell O’Dekirk and Margaret Rolewycz O’Dekirk. He attended St. Rita High School in Chicago and graduated from Villanova University in Philadelphia, PA in 1963 with a Bachelor of Engineering degree. Following graduation he went to work for IBM Corporation in Endicott, NY.
In 1965 he was drafted into the US Army. He served the following two years at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL. He continued to work with IBM in the Research Triangle until retirement in December, 2003. Jim was an active member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Cary until confined by illness.
Jim is survived by his wife of 47 years, Gail; son, Dr. James Mark O’Dekirk and his wife, Kathryn, and grandchildren, Meredith, Caroline and Zachary O’Dekirk of Willow Springs, NC; sister, Kathleen O’Dekirk of Chicago, IL; and brothers, John O’Dekirk (Debbie) of Marietta, GA, Terence O’Dekirk (Therese) of Downers Grove, IL, and Daniel O’Dekirk (Judy) of Oak Lawn, IL. In addition, he is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas O’Dekirk (Mary).
Visitation will be held at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home on Maynard Road in Cary on Wednesday evening, March 11, 2015 from 7-9 PM. A funeral mass will be held at St. Michael’s Church in Cary on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at 11 AM. Burial will follow at Wake Memorial Park.
