Winifred Andrew Yarger died on March 3, 2015 in Highwood. IL. Born December 11, 1920 in Norfolk, VA to Robert E.A. and Narcissa (nee Barnes) Andrew, she held a BA from the College of William and Mary and an MA from Columbia University. She earned a second Master's degree from Southern Connecticut State University.
Mrs. Yarger was a teacher in Norfolk, VA and Norwalk, CT and was later a school librarian until her retirement in 1985. She then resided in Raleigh, NC until the death, in 2008, of her husband of 56 years, Charles Hopkins Yarger.
She is survived by her only child, Sarah Yarger Kienzle of Lake Forest, IL and her two grandchildren, Elaina Barnes Kienzle of New York City and Thomas Craven Kienzle IV of Lake Forest, IL.
Mrs. Yarger liked to read, travel, do the New York Times crossword puzzle (only) and cook. She was well known for her Christmas morning southern pecan waffles and belief that almost any dish could be enhanced with a splash of Grand Marnier.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the library fund of either the College of William & Mary or Columbia University.
