Doris Moore Harriss, 93, long time Chapel Hill resident died March 4, 2015.
Doris was born to the late Benjamin Grady Moore and Ermine Moore, in the Town of Americus, Georgia, June 28, 1921. She graduated from Sumter County High School in 1939 and attended Georgia State College for Women in Atlanta. She married Robert Cornell Harriss in 1941 and they lived in Wilmington and Chapel Hill, North Carolina until his death in 2007. She is predeceased by her brother Benjamin Sims Moore.
As a young woman, Doris was a model in Atlanta and carried with her a great sense of style. She was an active member in Chapel Hill Preservation Society and a longtime member of the Sewing Circle with her close group of friends. Doris had a keen eye for antiques, enjoyed working in her garden, and traveling. She had a quick wit and sharp sense of humor.
Doris is survived by her children, Robert Cornell Harriss Jr., wife Patricia, Thomas Moore Harriss, wife Elizabeth, Elizabeth Harriss Macdonald, husband Holland and Mary Lillington Harriss. Four grandchildren: Helen Ley, Anna Harriss Smith, Samantha Gaglia Harriss, Michael Thomas Harriss and two great grandchildren: Adelaide Louise Smith, and Amelia Marie Smith.
A memorial service and interment at Oakdale Cemetery in Wilmington, NC, will be announced at a later date.
