Pollyanna Woodward Sheets, 75, lifelong resident of Willow Spring died on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at her home. A service celebrating her life will be held at Fuquay-Varina United Methodist Church, 100 S. Judd Parkway, Fuquay-Varina on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., with the Revs. Gene and Valerie Tyson and the Rev. Dr. Branson Sheets officiating.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert B. Sheets, Jr.; son, Branson Sheets (Stephanie) of Greenville, NC; daughter, Melodie Langford (Dan) of Lakeway, TX; and son, Wesley Sheets (Linda) of Nashville, NC; and seven wonderful grandchildren, Rebekah, Robby, Wesley, Christopher, Catherine, Charlotte, and Allison.
Polly was a graduate of Fuquay Springs High School and Woman's College of the University of North Carolina (UNCG). After staying at home with her young children until they all were in school, she began her teaching career at Fuquay-Varina Middle School. Her training was in home economics, but with no position available, she went back and got certified in special education. She eventually served as the department chair and taught for 27 years.
Polly was an active member of Fuquay-Varina United Methodist Church where she served in many capacities through the years: Sunday School teacher, Chair of the Council on Ministries, Chair of the Memorial Committee, and most recently, leader in the Stephen Ministry program. She served for many years in the FV Junior Woman’s Club and the FV Woman’s Club. She also served at the FV Food Pantry and at the Centennial Museum of Fuquay-Varina.
The family will receive friends at Thomas Funeral Home, 401 North Ennis Street, Fuquay-Varina from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 3, 2015.
