George Chester “Chet” Craddock, Jr., 67, quietly slipped away, Tuesday evening, April 14th, 2015 in his home surrounded by family. After growing up in Creswell, NC, George lived in Northern VA with his wife and two children (Angela Rae Jones and Patrick Dennis Craddock). In 1984, he moved to his beloved home on the Outer Banks of NC.
George was the 11th of 12 children who grew up playing sports, even earning a scholarship to play basketball at the College of the Albemarle. A former fireman in Washington, D.C., George severely injured his knee on the job and subsequently, began a career as a stay-at-home dad and enjoyed a full life where he often hosted family and friends on the beach in Nags Head.
George was always up-to-speed on politics, world events, sports, you-name-it. This made him an easy and affable conversationalist who never met a stranger or left a conversation without learning something new. Those who knew him know how much he loved a quick wit. He was a tolerant man who believed in everyone’s right to live life in their own way and all were welcome in his home.
He will be missed by everyone who knew him – especially his children; daughter-in-law, Laura; and granddaughter, Anna. He is survived by four siblings and their families – Wallace Craddock, Charles Craddock, Sara Mullennex and Eva Ferrell. A special thank you to the many people who supported George over the past few years.
