Gary Wein, 65, passed away from complications from an Ocular Melanoma on Friday, April 17, 2015 at the Duke Hospice Hock Family Pavilion. He was born in Beckley, W. Va., son of the late Isadore and Jean Wein. Gary attended The Mercersburg Academy and graduated from Duke University. He was the founder, President and Head Chef of Savory Fare, Inc. for 45 years.
Mr. Wein is survived by business partner of 45 years, Harold Tharrington, Jr., and his brothers Dr. Robert Wein and his wife Judy of Greensboro and Dr. Alan Wein and his wife Noele of Philadelphia, Pa. He is also survived by 8 nieces and nephews and 19 great nieces and nephews, all who loved him dearly.
Over the years Gary and Savory Fare prepared the home game team meals for the Duke Basketball Team and numerous events. Many departments at Duke and UNC used Savory Fare for events, as did the Morehead-Cain Foundation. He enjoyed so much his association with Duke, UNC and NC State University. Gary also did numerous events for so many companies in the Research Triangle Park.

A gathering of friends and family with meal will be held 4 to 8 pm, Monday the 20th in the Gathering Room at Clements. The family will receive friends 1 to 1:45pm Tuesday the 21st at Clements Funeral Home in Durham with burial following in Maplewood Cemetery.
