Sharron Elizabeth Rogers, 68, departed this life at her home in Durham on April 10, 2015. Born on February 10, 1947, at Watts Hospital in Durham County, Sharron was raised in Greensboro and studied Biology at the University of Kentucky, graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill to obtain a Master of Science in Ecology at Emory University. She performed environmental impact studies on the Trans-Alaska Gas Pipeline and the NASA Sandusky, Ohio wind power project during her tenure with Battelle Columbus Labs. Later, she served with the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources culminating her career leading the Hazardous Waste Section and serving in the Pollution Prevention Program. Her love of North Carolina and its natural heritage was always quick to come up in her conversations. Sharron is survived by her two brothers, James Rogers with his wife, Nancy; and Stephen Rogers with his wife, Jan. A nephew, Arthur and his wife Rebekah with their daughter, Kaylee, reside in Charlottesville, VA. A niece, Meredith, resides in Greensboro. A memorial service will be held on May 2, 2015 at 2:00pm at the Congregational United Church of Christ, 400 West Radiance Drive in Greensboro, NC. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial gifts to North Carolina Friends of State Parks or any other North Carolina Environmental non-profit organization.
