Corliss Cassel, 53 of Raleigh, NC passed away on Sunday April 12, 2015 surrounded by her family at the Duke Hospice Hock Family Pavilion in Durham, NC. She was born in Albuquerque, NM on May 13, 1961. She was preceded in death by her father Eloy Ortega, her mother Norma Ortega (Oniell), and her brother Loyd Ortega. Corliss was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend. Corliss enjoyed traveling, seeing sights and eating great food all over the USA and abroad with her husband Rick Cassel. She was an avid quilter and was always at work on a quilt for friends or family. She is survived by her husband Rick Cassel, daughter Hillary Carr and husband Billy Carr, and son Brent Oleson. She is also survived by her step daughter Cynthia Thomas and husband Sam Thomas, step son Jon Cassel and fiancée April Mustak, and step son Edward Cassel. Corliss was also survived by her brother Moises Ortega and wife Laura Ortega, her niece Jeanne Smith, nephews Jacob Ortega, and Zane Sawyer-Ortega. Besides traveling the world with her husband Rick, cruising around in her mustang convertible with the top down or spending time with their fur babies Chile and Pepper, she enjoyed quality time with their 3 precious granddaughters who knew her as Mimi.
