Matthew Alan Horney, 32, was welcomed home into the Kingdom of Heaven during the early morning hours on April 15, 2015.
He was born in Raleigh, NC during a late season snowstorm on March 24, 1983 to Donna McLaren and Thurman Horney, Jr. He was the eldest of one brother, John, and one sister, Elizabeth.
For those blessed to have known Matthew, many can attest that he never let anything slow him down nor any obstacle stand in his way. Diagnosed with pediatric brain cancer at the age of 5, many of his childhood and adolescent years encompassed medical treatments, doctors’ visits, and hospital stays under the extraordinary care of UNC-CH Hospital’s pediatric oncologist, Dr. Stuart Gold, and the fellow hospital staff.
During his bouts of medical treatments, Make A Wish Foundation granted Matthew’s biggest wish of all – a trip to Disney World. Matthew’s fascination and adoration of all things Disney sparked his creativity of art, especially drawing.
