Charles Phillip Keshler, Jr., 89, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Wake Med Hospital in Raleigh. A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at Thomas Funeral Home Chapel, 401 N Ennis Street, Fuquay-Varina, NC. In keeping with Charles' wishes, the service will be informal and dress will be casual. A private graveside service for family members will be held in upstate New York at a later date.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Gladys Keshler, Sr.; and brother, Jack Keshler.
Charles was born and raised in upper New York. He proudly worked as an engineer with General Electric for most of his career and even played on the company baseball team during earlier years. He served his country as a WWII Veteran with the US Army Air Corps.
Charles was a dedicated family man and enjoyed reading, fishing, sailing and camping. He was well traveled - he and his wife visited every state in the continental US in their RV and also traveled to quite a few countries. He was a member of Fuquay-Varina United Methodist Church. He was well loved and will be missed.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Gloria Keshler; three sons, Keith Keshler of Utica, NY, Kevin Keshler and wife, Tammy of Pittsboro, NC, and Kirk Keshler of Garland, TX; sister, Lila Eckel and husband, Aaron of NY; grandchildren, Brandy Hodges and husband, Kin, Connie Highsmith and husband, James, Keri Keshler, Justin Keshler and wife, Courtney, Ryan Keshler, and Alicia Keshler; and two great-grandchildren, Aaron Keshler and Sidney Highsmith; and former daughter-in-law, Michelle Keshler.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the bereavement fund at the Fuquay-Varina United Methodist Church, 100 S Judd Parkway, Fuquay-Varina, NC 27526.
