Belk is now accepting submissions for its Southern Designer Showcase competition. The contest invites Southern designers in the categories of women’s, men’s and children’s apparel and shoes and women’s accessories to vie for the chance to have their collections produced and sold in Belk stores and online.

Last year’s winner, Raleigh native Marissa Heyl, now of Texas, will have her Symbology line sold in Belk stores this spring.

Interested designers can visit belk.com/southerndesigner to submit applications through April 30. Designers must be 18 years or older and currently living in the South or have a strong connection to the region. Finalists will be chosen in May by a panel of Belk executives. Those finalists will then be invited to present their designs at Belk headquarters in Charlotte in June. Winners will be announced after that presentation.

The winners will receive a cash prize and have their designs produced and sold by Belk in spring 2019.

“This competition not only provides emerging designers a platform to expand their brand, but also gives us access to creative minds focused on the latest trends in Southern fashion,” says Nir Patel, Belk executive vice president and general merchandise manager of men’s, kids’, home and global sourcing.
