After two and half years of wearing traditional style braces, they have finally come off! I feel like a teenager and it has been so worth it.
What surprised me most about having the braces on was how many conversations it started with others who had either had braces as an adult or who were considering it. I was a candidate for Invisalign, but the end result would have left me with an overbite so I opted for a combination of clear on top and traditional on the bottom.
I started this orthodontic work with a fabulous Vietnamese-American dentist that I met while living in Beijing, Jacqueline dam Laute. She and her team had such a fantastic, make-it-happen attitude which I loved. Their attitude definitely helped when it came to deciding to start this process.
When we relocated back to the US I transferred to Dr. Bovenizer in Cary. Going to his offices every six weeks for the last year and a half has always been a pleasure. I cannot recommend Dr. Bovenizer and his team enough!
If you are considering any orthodontic work make sure you like the team you choose to work with because you will be seeing a lot of them over the time period. You want to look forward to going in to see them, which I always have whether it was in Beijing or NC.
When I started this process two and a half years ago I did envisage my after picture being taken with my new very short pixie hair cut. Not only did the braces come off this week but so did the wig I have been wearing since October, due to my chemotherapy treatment! There is nothing like ninety degree weather to help you to unveil a new head of hair!
If adult braces are something you are considering I can highly recommend the investment in time and money. Check out my before and after photos.
