High Cotton celebrates First Friday with a soiree from 5 to 8 p.m. introducing the winner of its second Collegiate Design Competition. The competition, which was open to students in N.C. State’s colleges of design and textiles, challenged budding designers to create a paisley pattern using a specific color palette. Ten finalists were chosen and put to a public vote, with College of Design student Meredith West earning top honors. West will be at the event, along with her winning design and other art pieces from her portfolio. Wine from The Wine Feed will be served. High Cotton is at 19 W. Hargett St. in downtown Raleigh.

Swirl, Sip and Shop

Shoppers at Bailey’s Fine Jewelry in Cameron Village can enjoy wine and chocolate pairings from The Wine Feed and Videri Chocolate Factory during the Swirl, Sip and Shop event, Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. During the soiree, customers also can register to win giveaways. Love Your Heart night

In conjunction with Cameron Village’s Love Your Heart initiative, The Impeccable Pig will host a Love Your Heart shopping night, Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. During those hours, 20 percent of sales will be donated to WakeMed, and shoppers can enjoy giveaways, free makeovers, food and more. Valentine’s Day Art Market

Valentine’s gifts with local flair – in the form of jewelry, soaps, crafts and more by area artisans – will be available at Rebus Works Gallery’s Pre-Valentine’s Day Art Market, Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. During the event, shoppers can nosh on eats from area food trucks, as well as sample local craft brews and coffee. SKIF trunk show

Dovecote boutique’s spring trunk show series continues this week with knitwear from SKIF on Saturday and Sunday. The small production company uses natural fibers such as silk, wool and unprocessed cotton to produce the yarn for its fabrics. Dovecote is in Pittsboro’s Fearrington Village, 919-542-1145.
