Some find fashion a frivolous affair, but two events this week prove stylish pursuits aren’t so silly, after all.

▪ ”WALK: The Runway Series” returns to North Hills on Thursday with Models for Charity members strutting in fall looks from boutiques such as Scout & Molly’s, Uniquities, Madison, Vineyard Vines and Jarrett Bay, among others. Drinks and light fare will be served. The party starts at 7 p.m. at the Dalek Exhibit area next door to Ruth’s Chris Steak House. Tickets are $25 and a portion of proceeds from the event benefit The Food Drive Kid, a non-profit supporting Backpack Buddies, which assists children from food-insecure homes. Go to visitnorthhills.com to purchase tickets.

▪ Shoppers can score deals on new and gently-used designer handbags while supporting a good cause at the Assistance League of the Triangle’s Baubles and Bags sale from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. Held at the organization’s A-Z Thrift Shop at 1621 N. Market St., Raleigh, the event benefits the league’s philanthropic programs, such as Operation School Bell, which provides new clothing to elementary school-aged children in need and A Kid’s Place, supporting kids in the Pediatric Emergency Department at WakeMed. Call 919-875-8901 for details.

Girls’ Night Out

Local Belk stores have something just for the ladies this week during Girls’ Night Out, 5-8:30 p.m. Thursday. Women can shop the latest looks for fall, enjoy wine, food, music and giveaways, as well as 20 percent discounts on women’s apparel, accessories and more. For full details, contact your local Belk store.

Patchwork Market Expands

Building on the success of its annual holiday sale and monthly markets, the Durham Patchwork Market launches a fall event, Saturday at the Durham Armory. From noon to 5 p.m., shoppers can peruse clothing, jewelry, art, home goods, gifts and more from more than 60 local designers, artisans and vintage vendors. Admission to the market is free. Trunk Shows

▪ Bailey’s Fine Jewelry in Raleigh’s Cameron Village will have new pieces from designer Charles Krypell in store for a trunk show Wednesday and Thursday. New necklaces, bracelets, earrings and more will be available. Call 919-829-7337 for details.

▪ The fall trunk show series at Dovecote boutique in Pittsboro’s Fearrington Village continues this weekend with dresses, pants and more from Italian label Peserico Collections, Saturday and Sunday. The family-owned company is known for its detailed tailoring and handmade pieces. Call 919-542-1145 to make an appointment.
