5 best red carpet looks from the 2019 Tony Awards

Compared with the other major awards shows, fashion at the Tony Awards is less dramatic. This year, though, there were about five standouts who walked the red carpet in boundary-pushing looks, often mixing elements of both traditionally masculine and feminine. See what we loved about these five stars.

1. BILLY PORTER

During the Oscars in February of this year, Billy Porter took social media by storm after gliding down the red carpet in a tuxedo-ball gown. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, right? Porter showed up to the Tony Awards in a similar silhouette, this time in daring red satin and frothy pink tulle. The ensemble was designed by Celestino Couture, an eco-minded label, and was made from repurposed Kinky Boots theater curtains. More than 30,000 Swarovski crystals added the finishing touches.

2. JORDAN ROTH

Jordan Roth wore a red-on-red Givenchy couture suit ensemble with wide-leg pants and latex sleeves.

3. CATHERINE O'HARA

Oh, Catherine O'Hara. She sent Twitter into a tizzy once users recognized the actress's red carpet look was a nod to her 1988 "Beetlejuice" character, Delia Deetz. The scoop-neck, black-and-white-striped gown with a front-tie neck was paired with black pointed-toe Stella Luna shoes.

4. CYNTHIA ERIVO

Fearless in feathers, Cynthia Erivo was fierce, yet ethereal, in this yellow-and-white gown by Chris Gelinas. The high slit added the perfect amount of drama to the style, and Erivo made the look complete with her edgy, red "caution" clutch.

5. TINA FEY

Chic, elegant and sophisticated are just a few of the words that come to mind when seeing Tina Fey in this Thom Browne gold, structured pantsuit. The dark-framed glasses and satin tie give the look a preppy, masculine punch.
