Al's Burger Shack expands hours, adds breakfast

Al’s Burger Shack has announced expanded hours and a new breakfast menu, which will be served Monday-Saturday from 7 a.m to 11 a.m beginning November 17. The “Shackfast” menu is guided by the same “real local and real good” ethos that has made the burger stand one of the most popular destinations on West Franklin Street.

Owner Al Bowers has also continued his practice of naming sandwiches for his his friends and family. On the new menu, options range from the Rose (local custom-blended sausage, fried egg, cheddar and house-made salsa verde on a grilled bun) to the Red’s Eye (three-ounce burger, fried egg, pimento cheese and pepper jelly). Homesick New Jerseyans will be happy to know that Bowers’ locavore principles are flexible enough to include Taylor ham on a sandwich called the Juju.

The beverage list gets a few additions, too, including a proprietary coffee blend from Jessee’s in Carrboro, fruit juices, and Maple View Farms milk.

One thing that doesn’t change is closing time. New hours for Al’s Burger Shack (516 W. Franklin St.; 919-904-7659; alsburgershack.com) will be Monday-Saturday from 7 a.m to 10 p.m.
