The much-anticipated opening of the second location of popular downtown Raleigh barbecue joint The Pit is finally at hand. The restaurant is on target to open for lunch today in a refurbished bottling plant, and will serve lunch and dinner daily.
Like the original, the Durham edition of The Pit will feature pit-cooked whole hog barbecue and a variety of other wood-smoked meats. A well-stocked bar and an extensive selection of scratch-cooked sides (including locally famous collard greens), features that set the Raleigh restaurant apart from the typical barbecue joint, are duplicated in Durham.
Also following in the trotter-steps of the original, The Pit in Durham (321 W. Geer St.; 919-282-3748; thepit-durham.com) will serve a special family-style dinner on Thanksgiving Day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Highlights include jowl-bacon bruschetta, pit-cooked turkey, and your choice of two desserts.
