South Green, the 45,000-square-foot shopping center coming to Carrboro, will be the home to a new brewery and new taco restaurant.
In a press release sent out Tuesday night, the leasing agent, Avison Young, revealed the complex’s first two tenants: Gimghoul Brewing & Bottle Co., a nano-brewery and bottle shop named after the Chapel Hill landmark) by Jason McCarter, Jeffrey Howard and Rick Tufts; and Atlas Taco Bar, a new venture by longtime Carrboro chef Kevin Callaghan, who owns Acme Food and Beverage Co. (Callaghan couldn’t be reached for comment Tuesday night.
The shopping complex will be on six acres north off Highway 54 at 501 S. Greensboro St. Construction is expected to begin in June 2017 and take up to 22 months.
At a Carrboro Board of Aldermen meeting last year, developer Runyon Woods said about 40 percent of the shopping center space is expected to go to restaurants.
